The Institute for World Economy (IWE) was established in 1967 with the main objective to carry out research on the design, implementation and impact of national and international economic policies. IWE has an extensive expertise in bridging the gap between different public and private stakeholders active in the economic and environmental fields in Romania. It has successfully carried out research and training with local communities, as well as political and business leaders. Moreover, IWE has been involved in developing and mapping indicators for socio-economic and business decisions, assessing the economic, social and legal implications of these platforms and developing cost-benefit analyses.
More recently, IWE’s efforts have been mainly directed towards research in the field of climate change, ecology and circular economy, also as a result of its location in Romania a country which is facing significant environmental challenges, due to ecosystem decay.
